There are two ways of spreading light ...
To be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it.

Plugging In

In the last few years, I have really come to depend on my neighborhood Panera Bread.  Even though I have a beautiful office, I never seem to write in it. One day I discovered that when I settle into my favorite spot at Panera and plug in my laptop, the ideas and words inevitably start to flow.  In fact I have become rather territorial about my favorite table, and I actually get a little irritated when I arrive and someone is sitting in my seat.

I now have a group of writing buddies who look out for me and do their best to keep my table available whenever possible.  All of us have our favorite seats and I am amazed at some of the bonds I have formed with people that I might not have met, if we had not discovered Panera’s comfy leather chairs and the free WiFi they offer their customers. We have an unspoken agreement to never break a fellow writer’s concentration in an effort to be polite and say hello, because we share a common desire stay in the flow and maintain our train of thought. Yet somehow these people know important details of my life and are very interested in my work. I was touched when I realized today that several of them are anticipating the release of my next book Say Yes to Your Majesty and I can’t wait to share it with them in the next few weeks. Since I have been dubbed The Queen of Energy, they have started calling me Your Highness, which I am happy to encourage!

This morning when I arrived at Panera, someone was sitting in my seat.  I couldn’t plug my laptop into the power outlet because the cord would not reach from where I was sitting. I quickly observed that many regulars had also been displaced from their coveted spots.  I started to laugh when I saw several of my writing buddies doing what I had done earlier, which was to circle around looking for a place to plug in. It suddenly occurred to me that this search for power is such a metaphor for life.  Whether it’s the electrical power that we need to plug into, the power we need to fuel our cars, or the political power we may or may not have, most people are running around trying to plug into a source of power outside of them in order to run their lives.

But here is the problem with that. Your source of power lies inside of you, not outside of you.  You are an extension of the Divine Current of energy that is the only true source of power and It has the ability to sustain every aspect of your life.  But first, you must be willing to use the creative and magnetic energy stored in your thoughts and emotions, in order to connect with this Divine Current of energy and allow it to flow into your life experience.  This requires remembering the rules of the kingdom in which you were born, and saying Yes to the Majesty thatresidesinside of you. The word Majesty means greatness, bestowing the highest rank of greatness upon someone. All of you have this greatness inside of you and it is part of your life’s purpose to say Yes to Your Majesty and accept your Divine Inheritance. You are supposed to live a life filled with great power, abundance, love, beauty and wellbeing.  The true nature and source of your power comes from recognizing this and using the light inside of you for the betterment of your own life and the environment that surrounds you. Instead of wishing things would change in the world outside of you, it is time that you become the change you wish to see.

This is not always easy to do.  Our society believes that our power comes from sources outside of us and therefore some person or group has the ability to control what we do and how we function.  We have been taught to depend on the power of the government, the power of our legal system, the power of our churches, our communities, our families, and our bosses, to determine what we experience on a daily basis.  Somewhere along the line we just came to accept that our power is derived from external forces.  So not only are we dependent on something outside of us that we can’t control, and that we need to help, protect and guide us, but we also believe that access to this power is unfairly distributed. Imbedded in our consciousness is this idea that there are a limited number of resources to go around, and we have to fight for our fair share of them.  This is why it is so important to start learning to think in terms of energy and understanding the creative influence you have in your life.

It is time you learn to think for yourself.  There are too many experts in the media bombarding you with what to think, eat, drink, drive, wear, how to spend your money, and a myriad of other things to that you are simply supposed to accept as truth. You have to take your power back and start determining what you personally think, feel and believe about every area of your life.  Why?  Because what you are thinking and feeling determines what you experience.  It has nothing to do with any person, place or situation outside of you, no matter how difficult that may seem to accept and believe.

I had the opportunity to listen to Stedman Graham speak last month, and I was so pleased to hear him addressing this same topic.  He kept asking the audience “Who are YOU?  What do YOU believe?” He stressed the importance of moving beyond the labels our society uses to define us and expressing who we truly are on the inside. We have to learn to connect with one another soul to soul.  He and I share the determination that there has never been a more important time in our history for you to learn how to think for yourself. You have to take responsibility for what you are tuning into and therefore creating. If you want to clean up the environment, clean up what you are thinking and feeling!

I remember after September 11th, the poet Maya Angelou saying “Now is the time that thinkers ought to think.” I have not observed much of that in our society and I suspect that is why there has been such a surge of interest in spirituality.  Deep in your heart, your soul knows the truth.  The only thing you will be able to rely on to pilot you through these dramatic times of change and upheaval, is your own powerful connection to the Divine and an awareness of what that means to you personally.  The only way you can connect to the Divine is through the energy of your thoughts and emotions. It will never assert itself into your experience, you have to allow it to flow into your life.

It is easy to get caught up with all the upheaval in the world, or to be tempted to push against something you don’t like, like war, terrorism, or suffering some place somewhere.  Here is what you have to remember, what you focus on gets bigger, so your greatest gift to the world is paying attention to what you invest your energy in on a daily basis.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to make a difference, just be aware of the energy you are choosing to tune into on a regular basis.  This will require a willingness to stop watching the television, and using your mind if a different way.  If you watch TV for distraction, then you have to find other ways to refuel and rejuvenate.

If you want to live in alignment with the natural order and learn to go with the flow, trying spending more time in nature. You don’t have go camping or dig in the dirt to do this.  Just try and spend some time every day at least observing it. You are part of nature and the natural order, therefore you have the same creative power, abundance, grace, beauty and majesty that nature does.  Eventually you just have to recognize that…and when you do, everything in your life will change (for the better).

I am excited about our future and fascinated to see how we evolve.  It is an extraordinary time to be alive on our planet. Every day I observe more and more people learning to go inside of themselves and plugging in to the incredible power stored inside of them.  The best thing you could ever do is to start using your power to create the love, hope, inspiration and beauty that so many are seeking today. Always remember that Like Attracts Like. You don’t have to run out and save the world, just radiate love wherever you are.  Every day I read the following quote from Mother Theresa because it reflects back to me what I have come to believe. She said  “It is not how much we do, but how much love we put into the doing.  It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.”  Just be who you really are, naturally, That truly is enough.
